When purchasing a home you are faced with a multitude of decisions. Your First Step: Mortgage Pre-Qualification

Once you know that you are ready to buy a home your first step in the purchasing process is to get pre-qualified for a mortgage with a mortgage company or your bank. This can be done over the phone or even online in a matter of minutes.

Your Next Step

Once you know your budget you can start to look at the details of buying a home. Ask yourself why you want to buy a home: To stop paying rent? To start building equity? To have a place of your own? To raise a family? To entertain business associates? To move up to a bigger house or downsize to a smaller house? Next, list what kind of home you'd like and where you would like to live. Be specific; separate the "must haves" from the "want to haves."  I suggest that you write a wish list and work from that while being open to changes as you go along.   

Think of yourself as zeroing in on a target, going from the general to the specific. Consider area (city, suburban neighborhood, country), community (north, south, east, or west side), and neighborhood (older and settled or sparkling new, a particular school zone, nearby recreational facilities and other community services such as transportation, child care, libraries, stores, entertainment). 

Think about home styles. Are you wanting condominium living where you won't have to worry about exterior maintenance or are you looking for a single family home? How much space do you need?  Does your situation require a one-level home, or are stairs acceptable? Do you want a garage or underground parking? Consider the size and type of property. Do you want a newer home or maybe an older one to fix up? Someday you or your heirs will want to sell. Consider how long you expect to live in this particular home.

Once you've been pre-qualified and have an idea of what you are looking for I will create an automatic property search for you from the MLS (Multiple Listing Service) so that any properties currently or newly coming on the market will come directly to your email. This way you will not miss any potential properties that match your specifications.
